Chiropractic Care is Like a Running Race. A Metaphor for Healing.

Healing takes time. It takes commitment, consistency, and it takes energy. I like to think of Cypress Chiropractic healing like a running race. If you’ve ever participated in a 5K, 10K, half or full marathon, you will be able to see this your minds eye very easily, but let me paint the picture for everyone.

There are people at the front of the starting line. Those are the people without symptoms. Then, there are people at the back of the pack, far from the starting line. Those are the people with multiple symptoms. There are also the people somewhere in the middle. Maybe those people only have one or two symptoms.

The race begins and everyone starts running towards the finish line. Everyone is going to eventually complete the race, but the ones that started at the front are more likely to finish before those that started closer to the back. They are healthier, faster, and stronger. They have a health system in place. Maybe there are some people that started in the middle or back of the pack that catch up, while others that were at the front, may fall behind. Healing is just like that. We all have our beginning and end, ups and downs, progress and relapses. We all have different paces, but if we keep working at it, we will complete the mission.

If you are having neck pain, back pain, headaches and/or sciatica, you may be one of the runners in the middle of the pack or closer towards the back. If you have multiple symptoms such as anxiety, headaches, digestive issues, shoulder pain, toe pain, neck pain, etc. etc., then you’re starting at the back of the pack. If you’re having no symptoms at all, then you are at the front.

All people in the race need chiropractic care because chiropractic is all about the creation and maintenance of health, however some people will need more time, more energy, and a more regular consistency to get to the finish while others already have that process in place. Some people heal quick and some people take longer to heal, and there is nothing wrong with that! We all have to start somewhere.

I, Dr. Sarah K. Wharton at Cypress Chiropractic will treat all of those runners in the race, but ask yourself this, do you want to start at the front or the back?

That’s my running metaphor for chiropractic healing. Thanks for reading the Cypress Chiropractic Health Blog. Until next time, stay healthy!
