Posture Correction & Assessment
The innate/natural design of your spine is for many physiological purposes. Your spine provides support, structure, movement, and stability, and most importantly, it acts as the communication highway between your mind and body. The automatic functions of your body are dependent on clear communication between the body and mind, making your posture directly connected to your overall health, well-being, and ability to adapt.
Posture describes where your spine is in relation to the rest of your body. Poor posture indicates dysfunction, compensations, increased aging, and a brain that is under stress. Good posture represents a spine and body that is working efficiently.
Posture as a Window to Your Holistic Health
Your posture offers a visible window into the health and function of your body as a whole. Posture describes how your head, spine, pelvis, and extremities are positioned in relation to one another. Ideally each part of the body should be in alignment with one another.
From a frontal view of the body these parts should be in alignment; the third eye (that space in between your eyebrows), nose, top of the sternum, belly button, pubic symphysis, the space in the center of where the feet land. From the side view these parts should be in alignment; the ear, shoulder, greater trochanter, knee, and ankle.
Good posture is more than simply standing up straight or pulling your shoulders back. It reflects a body that can support itself efficiently, move with greater ease, and distribute physical stress more evenly. When your spine is properly aligned and moving well, your body does not have to use as much energy to compensate. This can help you feel more balanced, comfortable, resilient, and connected to your body.
What Causes Poor Posture?
The root of poor posture is the spinal subluxation. Structurally, subluxations are misalignments in the joints of the spine, that are a result of an overload of stress and irritation to the nervous system. How you get subluxated depends on many factors such as movement patterns, toxic overload, emotional stress, and the amount of energetic reserve you have.
How Can Cypress Chiropractic & Wellness Help Posture?
At Cypress Chiropractic & Wellness, we look beyond the appearance of your posture to identify the spinal patterns and nervous system stress that may be contributing to it. In your first chiropractic appointment we will capture posture photos to get a baseline of your current postural position. These are shared with you in your second, Report of Findings + Adjustments appointment.
Over the course of care, we will take new posture photos to track and compare your progress. Your posture will improve with spinal, cranial, and extremity adjusting techniques to remove the tension and allow for the creation of new patterns. Adjustments improve alignment and mobility, reduce unnecessary tension, and support clearer communication between the brain and body. As your spine and whole body function more efficiently, healthier posture will become easier and more natural to maintain.
