Besides being located centrally in the Charleston area, and besides offering business hours that are well after school and work, Dr. Sarah K. Wharton loves working with all people of all stages of life. She is also certified with the International Pediatric Chiropractic Association (ICPA) and has advanced training in the care and analysis of infants and kids.
Yes, kids have a nervous system and spine, just like adults; however, they also have their own gifts, obstacles, and challenges, all while they are developing their spine and nervous system.
The nervous system coordinates everything within the body — sleep, digestion, growth, development, focus, mood, attitude, immune response, stress response, etc. — so that’s why Cypress focuses on locating areas of nervous system disruption and clearing them with chiropractic adjustments, for the entire family unit.
Why Families Across Charleston Choose Cypress
Feel At Home
A homey, welcoming environment for the whole family to enjoy. At Cypress Chiropractic, we want you to feel at home. We have books for both kids and adults, we have toys, we have parking, and we get to know you all as if you are an extension of our Cypress family.
Objective Progress
Our INSiGHT Technology scans (heart rate variability and thermography) let us measure how each family member's nervous system is functioning and track it over time. The scans guide and monitor care; they don't diagnose.
Posture Assessment
Posture is an indicator of the overall health of the spine in its relation to the whole body. Posture is examined in all stages of life — there are what are considered "normal" postures for newborns, toddlers, young adults, and adults.
Care Through Pregnancy
Dr. Sarah is trained in the Webster Technique for expecting moms. Healthy families start prior to pregnancy, during pregnancy, and following.
Gentle and Specific
The care a newborn receives looks different from what an adult would receive — obviously! Chiropractic is tailored to the individual, and for a newborn or infant it's light, precise, and matched to their size and stage.
One Familiar Place
Instead of coordinating providers all over town, your whole family is cared for in our warm office in the historic Faber House downtown.
A Few Things Set Us Apart for Families
Infants & Newborns
Newborn care is extremely gentle — roughly the pressure you'd use to check a ripe tomato. It doesn't even closely resemble the force of birth or a C-section. Oftentimes, parents first start to notice newborn nerve dysregulation with symptoms around sleep, feeding, latching, and general fussiness. Our approach is to evaluate, locate the nerve interference, and clear it with gentle chiropractic adjustments.
Children, Kids, & Teens
Backpacks, screens, tumbles, sports, long days sitting under fluorescent lighting, growth and developmental changes — all place demands on a child's nervous system and spine. When communication between the brain and body is clear, adapting to the challenges of childhood happens with more ease.
Student Athletes
Teen athletes train hard while their bodies are still growing and are presented with the regular demands of childhood. Chiropractic care supports recovery, movement quality, and proprioception. (Athlete in the family? See our sports chiropractic care.)
Parents & Adults
You process and manage a lot in the day-to-day — physically, mentally, and emotionally. Chiropractic care helps your nervous system stay regulated so that you can prevent overdrive and hopefully feel more like your energetic self.
Pregnancy & the Webster Technique
The Webster Technique is the preferred technique for prenatal patients. It is a chiropractic analysis and adjustment that reduces nervous system stress, balances pelvic bones, muscles, and ligaments, and optimizes the mother's pelvic function in pregnancy and birth. Birth is a natural part of life; however, with all of the medical and chemical interruptions around pregnancy and birth, a clear nervous system reduces the stress on mom and the expecting child.

Serving Families Across the Charleston Area
Is chiropractic care safe for children and infants?
+
Yes. Care for children is gentle and adapted to their size and stage of life — the force used for an infant is very light. Many families include their kids as part of whole-family wellness.
At what age can a child start chiropractic care?
+
The sooner the better! So, moments after they are born is when they can start care for preventative and wellness purposes. Remember, pregnancy and birth are stressful not only for the mother, but for the child too. Any stress, trauma, or injury that could have happened to a child during pregnancy and birth should be addressed as soon as possible to prevent potential future health issues.
Can you adjust our whole family in one visit?
+
That is the goal, so yes! There are times that a young child or toddler might need to ease into trusting the chiropractor, especially if they have previous trauma around medicine or doctors. In that case, it is usually recommended that the child continue to come with the family to sit-in until they feel ready and accepting of chiropractic care.
What is the Webster Technique?
+
Webster Technique is the preferred technique for prenatal patients. It is a chiropractic analysis and adjustment that reduces nervous system stress, balances pelvic bones, muscles, and ligaments, and optimizes the mother's pelvic function in pregnancy and birth.
Does an adjustment hurt, especially for kids?
+
Absolutely not. Adjustments are comfortable for both children and adults. They usually help kids feel less anxious and better than before. Most kids look forward to it.
