Posture Has a Purpose

The spine is designed the way that it is to provide structural support, protect the spinal cord, allow for flexibility, and facilitate various bodily functions. Its arrangement of vertebrae, discs, and ligaments enables movement while maintaining stability. The curves of the spine help with shock absorption and weight distribution, reducing impact on the body. Additionally, the spinal cord housed within the spine is crucial for transmitting messages between the brain and the rest of the body, emphasizing the importance of its protection. This intricate postural design reflects the spine's purpose in supporting overall health, body function, mobility, and strength. Posture is also a great representation of your overall health and well-being, so if you are struggling with health issues and you don’t know where to start, have a chiropractor assess your posture first. Then, go from there.

Maintaining proper posture is crucial for our overall health and yes, we need to remind ourselves to sit up and hold our shoulders back, but, often times its more then just being conscious of our posture. Often times, poor posture is a result of spinal subluxations, also know as, spinal misalignments. What this means is that if you have spinal subluxations, your posture will innately move into a more hunched over position no matter how much you remind yourself to sit or stand up straight. Your spine does this simply because it is compensating and doing its best to take pressure off of the nerves that the misaligned vertebrae are creating. When spinal subluxations are present, posture will most likely continue to get worst despite all of the gadgets, pillows, fancy postural chairs, and reminder devices you invest in.

If you want to improve your posture, you have to improve your spinal alignment, and this is best done with chiropractic care. Chiropractic adjustments remove the spinal misalignments so that the nerve pressure is released, resulting in a more upright position. This will reduce strain on your nerve system, muscles, joints, and ligaments, ultimately alleviating and/or preventing discomfort, pain, and potential long-term health issues caused by musculoskeletal imbalances.
